Education and Early Life
Attorney D'Apolito Graduated from Boardman High School. He earned an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Toledo, College of Law. After completing law school, he returned to Mahoning County and was admitted to the practice of law.
Legal Experience
His legal career began in the City of Youngstown's Law Department, where he prosecuted criminal cases in the Youngstown Municipal Court and Represented the City in Civil matters related to community development and economic development projects, including efforts to maintain local control of the school system and protect employee rights.
In 2018, D'Apolito joined the Mahoning County Prosecutor's Office as an Assistant Prosecutor. He managed a docket of Felony Non-Support Cases and provided legal representation to various county entities, including the Board of Mahoning County Commissioners, the Mahoning County Sheriff, and several other county boards and townships.
Key Accomplishments
He takes pride in his work supporting law enforcement, particularly in the acquisition and implementation of public safety and communication systems that make Mahoning County a safer place. D'Apolito was instrumental in the establishment of the Mahoning County Campus of Care, a project that transformed a shuttered state institution into a hub for social service organizations providing wraparound services. He also recognizes the importance of family and child welfare, drawing from his experience prosecuting Felony Child Support Non-Support Cases and his personal perspective as a husband and father.
Judicial Functions and Responsibilities
For approximately two years and while serving as an Assistant Mahoning County Prosecutor, D'Apolito was assigned to assist a Special Master in another Ohio county with the review of documents and evidence for admissibility in a criminal case. In this role, he evaluated claims of privilege and provided recommendations directly to the Court regarding whether materials should be disclosed or withheld. In serving as Assistant to the Special Master, D'Apolito carried responsibilities similar to those of the Court, ensuring that constitutional protections were upheld. This work required careful balance, protecting privileged communications while permitting the use of admissible evidence, thereby safeguarding the rights of all parties involved.
Community Enrichment Focus
In 2022, D'Apolito transitioned to the role of Township Administrator for Austintown, Ohio where he serves under the direction of the Austintown Township Trustees. During his tenure, he has overseen significant projects, including a playground expansion funded by the State Capital Budget and large-scale road resurfacing projects achieved through collaboration with county officials.
